Here’s some packing tips that have helped me during my travels!
- Keep it simple.
You’re not going to need 5 pairs of jeans. Trust me.
Think about how you can mix and match outfits. (If you’ve ever heard of a capsule wardrobe, now is the time to use that mindset!) How can this pair of shorts pair with other tops and vice versa?
I have a similar pair of jean shorts that I use all the time!

- You can wash clothes.
If you’re lucky enough to stay somewhere where they have a laundry, perfect! But even if the place doesn’t, cleaning the sink, stopping the drain and adding laundry detergent for a good ‘ol hand wash and air drying situation isn’t the end of the world.
For a good ol’ hand wash, I love using Dr. Bronner’s Soap! A little goes a long way with this stuff and it comes in a ton of great scents. I love the Citrus and Lavender! >>>>

- Consider the weather
Think of possible weather conditions. Will it rain or mostly be sunny? If it will be hot, do you really want to be wearing skinny jeans? If there is the possibility of rain, do you really want to be caught without some kind of windproof, rain jacket? The weather will both limit and dictate what you should bring. I also imagined that “ok, if it’s cold, I will wear THIS sweater. Why do I need to bring more than 1 sweater?” This helped me cut down on duplicates.

- Layer up besties
Some folks say that layers are perfect for fall and winter but I say that they are great all year round, especially as someone on the thinner side who gets cold, PRETTY easily. Just like mix and matching outfits, imagine how you can layer pieces as well to build even more outfits (and adapt to cooler/warmer temperatures).

- What you doing? Ok, but what are you ACTUALLY going to be doing?
I’m a pretty imaginative person so I can find myself daydreaming about elegant excursions to fancy restaurants or treks through nature…but realistically…I knew that maybe we’d eat out sometimes but more than likely, we’d stick to eating and being at home! This helped me decide the types of outfits to bring. IE, I definitely will not be needing such flashy/dressier tops or heels. I count the number of days and nights I’m going to be visiting and plan outfits accordingly with room for some flexibility. Since I knew I would have access to laundry, I knew I could pack a lot less and repeat outfits when needed.

- Packing cubes are the best.
Amazon has a ton of options and I highly recommend them. They help pack, get you organized once you arrive and unpack. You can throw them into a dresser upon arrival and everything is so much easier to find. They also allow for a ton of compression in your luggage which is great because then you can pack more (if you don’t want to listen to tips 1-5 anyway!).

I hope some of these tips help you out when it comes to packing for upcoming trips!
